British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.

Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
