A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has won 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive play style and regular reactions on court had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
