Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
