Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and was to take time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "during the day".

The series decider of the series at the SCG begins this coming Sunday.

England have been without key quicks one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, taking just three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, before adding 28 while batting as one of just three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of his spell, he delivered a variation to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.

Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test having missed the Adelaide game.
