The esteemed football figure has made clear that he is not seeking a re-entry into football management, pointing out that it would be challenging to recreate the higher calling he experienced as the national team coach.

Southgate expressed his intention to dedicate his efforts toward supporting the next generation and countering what he called a dominant downbeat story now existing in the country.

Embracing Fresh Opportunities Outside of Football

In a recent radio interview, the manager was questioned on rumors linking him with open coaching positions in the English football and elsewhere.

“My role with England was not just a job—it was a mission representing my nation,” he responded. “Recreating that unique role won’t be easy. With 37 years in football behind me, I’m excited to identify fresh ways to create impact.”

Commitment to Role Models

Ahead of the release of his new title, Dear England: Lessons in Leadership, he shared that he is highly enthusiastic about providing role models for young people, drawing on experiences from his time as leader of the England team from 2016 and 2024, as well as his experiences as a parent.

He believes that his time leading the national team, during which the team transformed from being widely disliked to broadly loved, holds general lessons.

“At the beginning, there was a major gap between the team and the fans,” he said. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Family Life and Guiding Young People

Reflecting on his role as a parent, the coach remarked: “Parents strive to offer their children a great beginning, but eventually, kids tune out. My household is no different, but I’m convinced this is a vital focus for society.”

He continued: “There’s a negative narrative around our country at the moment and we’ve got to give young people hope, we’ve got to give them guidance. We’ve got incredible talent but we need to them to find the right role models, the right friendship groups because those decisions have such a big impact on the rest of their lives.”

Togetherness Beyond Division

Southgate insisted that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the societal attention often emphasizes division.

“One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he said. “Economically lots of places are in tough situations now and that’s going to prompt desires for change. But I have seen the ability to unite the country. I saw during Covid people doing shopping for the neighbours and that’s when we as a nation are at our best, when we’ve been pushed into a corner and come out and shown resilience.”

The manager’s new release, titled Dear England, is set to provide additional perspectives on leadership and country pride drawn from his distinguished time in football.
