Music Legend Barry Manilow to Undergo Surgery for Cancer in His Lung.

The singer has disclosed that he received a diagnosis with a cancerous growth in his lung and is set to have an operation.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The legendary 82-year-old artist, whose parade of beloved anthems from "Copacabana" cemented his status as one of pop music’s most beloved performers, will have a procedure to extract a portion of his lung in an effort to fight off the illness, which is in its early stages.

“As my fans are aware, I recently endured six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a recurrence of another five weeks.

“Even though I was recovered from the illness and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.

“The MRI detected a malignant lesion on my lung that requires removed. It’s incredible chance (and a fantastic physician) that it was caught so early.”

Concert Delays

He has delayed a number of upcoming live performances, but suggested he would be back on stage by the February holiday for his longstanding concert series in Las Vegas.

He continued: “The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. Chemo is not needed. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just home remedies and classic TV.

“I’m looking forward to until I rejoin my familiar venue for our Vegas run for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is presently in his 16th year of a show on the Las Vegas Strip. The singer has been in the limelight and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after tying the knot with his manager and long-term partner in secret in 2014.

The pair were in a clandestine partnership for in excess of 35 years. In 2023, Manilow spoke about how crucial his partner had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.

“As my career exploded, it was just crazy. And, you know, returning to an empty hotel room, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re on your own repeatedly,” he said.

“But I met Garry right around when it was taking off. And I no longer had to go back to those empty hotel rooms. I had somebody to share sorrows with or to share joys with.

“I desire that young people don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you get yourself in trouble. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was fun.”
