The star has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

He was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his new release his work was named the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to support numerous grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped locations that were confronting imminent closure due to issues stemming from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and fans.

"The concept that revenue from performances in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to give his award prize money to worthy causes.

When Pulp earned the award in 1996 for their record Different Class, frontman the singer declared that the group would give their winnings to the organization War Child.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her bounty among a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed new equipment," she shared with outlets.

Previously, the band contributed their prize money to the community center that developed their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning affected another person's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
