"They are arriving in Tennessee seeking to capture a House seat."

The Volunteer State Republican Party Chair Scott Golden presented this caution to party faithful last week at the local Lincoln Day Dinner held in the small community.

Over a dinner of holiday-style food, and after a featured address by a convincing Abraham Lincoln impersonator, the chairman noted that an early December by-election to fill an available House seat has placed his region at the centre of national political landscape - Democratic funds are being invested.

Earlier this month, Democratic Leader organized a rally in this area. And last Tuesday, former Vice-President Kamala Harris campaigned with campaign workers at a door-knocking operation.

"Why would I be in Tennessee?" she posed to the crowd. "Because I believe the potential is in the South."

Electoral Battlefield in Traditionally Republican Territory

The region being contested has historically been reliably conservative. The former president won there by twenty-two percentage points in the previous presidential election. However both Republicans and Democratic supporters are acting as if the election is much closer - and election analysts share this view.

"Sources generally agree that local Democratic operatives are enthusiastic at the prospect of an upset, whereas numerous Republican voters are unaware a contest is happening," observes a political reporter of the Cook Political Report.

Divisions in Trump's Political Foundation

This race comes as divisions have appeared in the President's grip within his political organization concerning various matters - reaching a peak with outspoken Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene's surprise departure from Congress recently.

"No matter which way the political pendulum swings, GOP or Democrat, little truly becomes better for the average American man or woman," she said in her final address.

The outcome in this state by itself won't flip control of the narrowly split Congress. Yet a GOP setback might prompt anxiety within Republican officials as the President is vulnerable and many Republican supporters are concerned about the upcoming midterm races.

Shifting Voting Patterns
