The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
