The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
