The Two Fatalities Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Hunt for Gunman.

Two students who died in the recent violent attack at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies on social media, stating: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a police operation at a lodging about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our public”.

The shooter began shooting inside a lecture hall in the building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the media outlet.

Police that raided the hotel seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was arrested, as was reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Additional Memorials

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and fellow students and grieve for of his bright future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about thousands of bachelor's and postgraduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in the current year, according to records. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
